US Citizenship for a Child ⁦(CRBA)⁩

A child born in Israel to a US parent - citizenship, passport and SSN in one package

A child born outside the US to a US parent is entitled to US citizenship. The CRBA ⁦(Consular Report of Birth Abroad)⁩ is the official US birth certificate. We guide you through the full package: citizenship, first passport, and Social Security number. Note: the SSN is a separate process from the CRBA, and we walk you through both. The documents themselves are issued by the embassy.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is a CRBA?

Consular Report of Birth Abroad - the official document confirming that a child born outside the US is a US citizen from birth. It serves as a US birth certificate for all purposes.

Up to what age can we apply?

A CRBA is filed before age 18. The earlier, the simpler. If the child is already over 18, other paths exist and we're happy to review the case.

Does the parent need to prove anything?

Yes - proof of the parent's US citizenship and proof of physical presence in the US for a certain period are required. We review this with you in advance so there are no surprises at the appointment.
