Mistakes That Get Your US Visa Refused — and How to Avoid Them
Most refusals aren't a real 'problem' — they're poor preparation. What's critical in the DS-160, and how to arrive at the interview ready.

A US visa interview usually lasts under two minutes. In that short window the officer decides — and most refusals we see aren't a substantive problem, but avoidable, preventable mistakes.
Mistake 1 — inconsistencies in the DS-160
The form is the backbone of the whole interview. A wrong date, a name that doesn't match the passport, missing travel history — each creates a contradiction the officer sees in front of them. Consistency between the form, the documents and your spoken answers is critical.
Mistake 2 — not showing strong ties to Israel
A tourist visa rests on the assumption you'll return. Work, family, studies, assets — anything showing a solid reason to come back strengthens the application. Failing to present clear ties is a common refusal cause.
Mistake 3 — assuming ESTA always covers you
Israel is in the Visa Waiver Program, but not everyone is ESTA-eligible (see the ESTA eligibility article). Those ineligible who try anyway get denied — then need a tourist visa. Better to check in advance which path is yours.
Mistake 4 — improvising at the interview
- Answers too long or evasive raise suspicion
- Not knowing your own trip details
- One missing supporting document out of dozens
We prepare the form, build the document file, and brief you on exactly what to say and bring — so you arrive calm and organized, not guessing.
